About the Course
If you would like to become skilled in addressing injuries and musculoskeletal problems using Acupuncture and Bodywork, this is the ideal place to begin.
This is the first of a six, two day course series. The fundamentals in needle technique and bodywork will be introduced. We will look at how to combine the techniques learnt on Day One, plus additional techniques to treat Lower Back injuries, on Day Two.
In this course, you will learn a Daoyin set (8 Storing Qi), Acupuncture techniques, Needle insertion techniques for larger gauge needles, Bodywork techniques and how to combine all three for best effect. You will also discover how to customise your treatments to fit the individual you are working with, whether they are young and athletic, older and less active, or any combination in between.
We will look at the detailed treament of the lower back using Acupncture and Bodywork.
Why the Daoyin practice?
It guides you on how to use your body effectively during treatments to achieve optimal results. Through Daoyin practice, you learn to apply hand bodywork techniques, acupuncture techniques, and grasp the involved subtleties. Your hands can also become warm to touch, which aids in the ability to successfully treat patients.
Which Acupuncture techniques?
The fundamental techniques in this two day course will include, Sparrow Pecking (雀啄法 Quezhuofa) and Spreading (散法 Sanfa). Sparrow Pecking is frequently employed for musculoskeletal and injury-related issues, especially for chronic issues and the Spreading technique is not only used for chronic conditions, but better suited for certain body types.
Detailed explanations and practice of each technique, along with their subtle variations, will be provided throughout each day. An introduction to Gathering (聚法 Jufa) techniques will also be included and where appropriate, mention of other techniques used in the Tangible Acupuncture system of treatment.
Which Bodywork techniques?
Stretches and other highly subtle hand techniques are seldom taught in Chinese Medicine schools, if ever. The methods explored in these courses will include but are not limited to; Combing/Smoothing Out (捋 lǔ), Pushing (推 tuī), Rubbing (揉 róu), Gentle Shaking (晃 huàng), Rocking (搖 yáo), Vibrating (掺 cān, Patting, Grasping, Shaking and more.
This course is suitable for all levels of experience and will be especially good if you would like to treat more physical injury and MSK issues. If you've been treating injury and MSK issues but haven't achieved the desired outcomes, this is an ideal opportunity to learn how to improve your results. Participants of previous TAOI courses taught by Andrew or any of his teachers are welcome to attend, especially those requiring a refresher and guidance on techniques which were learnt, but have not been using regularly in clinic.
Throughout this course, participants will notice a significant improvement in their skills to identify and manage the treatment of Lower Back injuries, which could either prepare them for specialisation in the field or, at the very least, lead to a high level of clinical competence.
